Life and Work in Central Germany

 Cospudener See

Central Germany looks back on a long cultural and economic tradition: on the roots of Protestant Reformation and the Age of Enlightment as well as on industrial pioneers and famous composers such as Bach and Händel.

In recent years, the economic region around the cities of Halle and Leipzig has experienced a remarkable boom. Many renowned German and international companies have invested in the region and created thousands of jobs. They value the region’s central location, its proximity to Eastern European markets and the well developed infrastructure.

However, it is not just the favorable location and the excellent working conditions that have made Central Germany an extremely attractive region. Besides, the international atmosphere of the cities Halle and Leipzig offer a broad variety of educational, cultural and leisure activities.

The cultural heritage of the region is part of daily life: Whether it is chocolate production and viniculture at the rivers Saale and Unstrut, the high density of theaters and orchestras or spare time activities within the extensive river and lake areas. The cities Halle and Leipzig are the centers of the region’s cultural life: The Bachfest or the Händelfestspiele for instance are world famous festivals that attract thousands of visitors each and every year.

With modern universities, universities of applied science, colleges of art and international research institutes both cities provide an excellent educational infrastructure. One example is the Leipzig International School offering education in English for children, from pre-school through secondary school.
