Comeback KidsThe Dow Chemical Company created the Comeback Kids Program in 1996 after recognizing there were few award programs in middle schools to encourage students that face personal or academic challenges. Most award programs recognize students for perfect attendance, high academic achievement or outstanding athletic success. Dow created this program to recognize student that are doing well in school but may not meet the criteria of other award programs.
The students are selected by the middle school they attend and are given awards in May to recognized achievements and accomplishments made during the school year. The students are selected from eleven school districts including: Texas City, La Marque, Houston, Freeport, Lake Jackson La Porte, Clear Creek and Angleton. There have been over 300 students that have received the Comeback Kids Award. Teachers and administrators have reported the program is making a major difference in the lives of students. ![]() The 2007 winners of the Dow Comeback Kids Award were given
