Dow Texas City Announces 2011 Community Grants Program

Organizations contributing to the success of their communities will have a chance to receive up to $5,000 in funding through the 2011 Dowries Community Grant Program. Since 2004, more than $260,000 has been awarded to support over 30 community projects through the Dowries Community Grants Program.

"Our communities are in need of help, and the Community Grants Program allows us to work with the community to identify those needs and contribute to them," said Larry Schmid, Dow Texas City site leader. "We believe very strongly in this community and we are proud to not only be part of it, but to be part of the sustainability and betterment of the Galveston County area."

Applicants must be charitable or non-profit organizations, or municipal or government agencies and be based in Galveston County. The funding is intended for one-time projects that contribute to long-term benefits in the areas of science in society, community sustainability or environmental enhancement. Winners will be selected by a committee made up of Dow employees and community members.

One of last year's recipients was LaMarque ISD. Their Summer Enrichment Program received a $4800 grant to provide elementary and middle school students the opportunity to participate in non credit programs that stimulate their minds and bodies.

Other recipients in 2010 included M.I. Lewis Social Service Center, Dickinson ISD Education Foundation, Texas City ISD Foundation for the Future, College of the Mainland Foundation, Teen Health Center, The Jesse Tree, Fatima Education Foundation, Barbour's Chapel Community Development Corporation and The Children's Center. The application period begins Monday, August 19. Nonprofit organizations can receive electronic applications and more information about the application process at http://www.dow.com/ucc/locations/texascity/community/index.htm.
