Texas City Operations Announces 2007 Community Grant Winners
Texas City Operations is proud to announce that ten local non-profit organizations are the winners of the 2007 Community Grant Program. The grants funded represent a diverse group of projects that will provide needed services for the community. Projects that will be funded include a new walking trail, a portable medical clinic that will be used during natural disasters, and upgrades to a playground at a local nursery.
This is the fourth year of the community grant program that has now funded about $160,000 in local projects. A review committee of community members and TCO employees reviewed the applications and selected the winners. Each application is sponsored by an employee or retiree.
City of Santa Fe
Project: Mae Bruce Library Walking Trail
Create a safe and accessible walking trail for community residents to promote exercise and relaxation.

Dickinson ISD – Special Programs
Project: Student Multi-Media Center
Create a classroom designed to address the special needs, skills and deficits of students with autism with activities that strengthen and maximize the strengths of the students.

Galveston Island Humane Society
Project: Fix’em for $5 – 2007
Provide spray/neuter surgery to pets of lower income and economically disadvantaged residents of the community.

Project: Have Clinic will Travel
This project will provide a portable medical clinic which give expanded medical options to the uninsured in underserved areas and will also be available after natural disasters.

Junior Achievement of the Mainland
Project: JA Titan
Project which introduces elementary, junior high and high school students to a computer based business simulation with team building and career exploration activities in order to apply economic theories taught in the classroom into real world situations.

Project: Instrument Program
This project will provide school owned instruments for use of the middle school beginning band to increase student participation among economically disadvantaged students.

Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County, Inc.
Project: Reaching Underserved Populations
Develop new resources to help reach underserved Spanish speaking and youth populations by providing Spanish and youth friendly materials in written and visual versions addressing areas of bullying, violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

Project: Disaster Relief – Petro Chemical
This project will provide for an emergency canteen trailer to be used in conjunction with the emergency food service vehicle to store supplies, food, and necessities for workers and survivors of a disaster.

Sunshine Center, Inc.
Project: Spreading a Little Sunshine
Create various craft activities such as wind chimes, bird houses and pen holders to enhance the motor skills, creativity and self esteem of individuals with developmental disabilities.
