Dow Provides $60,000 in Community Grants

Seadrift, TX - September 06, 2006

Union Carbide's Seadrift Operations proudly announces that seven community improvement projects will be made possible thanks to the Seadrift Operations Community Grant Program and the people of Dow. A total of five $10,000 grants and two $5,000 grants will be awarded this year.

"We are very excited about the impact these valuable projects will bring to the community, and commend the organizations and employee sponsors who brought them forward for funding consideration," said Site Leader David Pankratz.

The types of projects supported by the Community Grant Program this year vary in scope from helping people meet their basic needs, to improving the quality of life in the communities in which the site and its employees reside.

The Dow Chemical Company Foundation is pleased to announce the following recipients of the 2006 Community Grants Program.

"We were so energized by the proposed projects that we decided to increase our grant program contribution amount to $60,000 this year," said Public Affairs Manager Tracie Copeland. "This allowed us to give an extra grant and fund another very worthy cause."

2006 marks the third year that the Community Grant Program, which seeks to identify projects that bring immediate benefit and and sustainable results, has been in place. Eligible non-profit oganizations with a Seadrift Operations employee sponsor can submit an application for one of two grant amounts. The grants are then read and scored by a panel of judges from the site and community. Recipient organizations are required to complete their projects within one year of receipt of the funding.
