Education Initiatives

Volunteers judge science fairs and social studies fairs at the local schools in the area.
Local high school students visit St. Charles Operations (SCO) to job shadow employees at the facility. SCO volunteers host students on a plant tour and give students the opportunity to “shadow” various job assignments.
Employees volunteer as teachers in Process Technology (PTEC-101) for local high school students.

By partnering with St. Charles Parish schools, our employees are able to reach thousands of students each year. Employees volunteer for a host of activities, including judging science fairs, mentoring students and teaching Jr. Achievement. The company also organizes holiday toy drives for needy children, in partnership with area schools. And when it comes to enhancing curriculum, Dow has committed $200,000 to implement inquiry-based science education in St. Charles Parish classrooms for grades K-6 during the next five years.

PTEC – Process Technology
Dow is playing a lead role in developing and promoting the PTEC curriculum. This two-year, associate’s degree in Process Technology arms students with the knowledge and skills the chemical industry needs. We are partnering with teachers, guidance counselors and community colleges to help develop curriculum, build awareness surrounding the program, and offer scholarships to interested students. In fact, several of our employees volunteer as teachers in an introduction to Process Technology (PTEC-101) for local high school students.
