UCAR Latex 452 UCAR™ Vehicle 452 is a styrene-acrylic latex designed especially for coil coating primers. It provides the excellent flow and leveling necessary for these very thin coatings. Additionally, it has the flexibility, water resistance, and adhesion necessary for a good primer vehicle. Although designed for primer applications, UCAR Vehicle 452 can be used in noncritical topcoat applications. Long-term durability data are not available, but accelerated and short-term Florida exposures indicate that UCAR Vehicle 452 will have moderate exterior durability.
When modified with POLYOX™ Water-Soluble Resin, UCAR Vehicle 452 may be applied by a direct roll coater. Its good film properties make it a useful vehicle for a variety of metal deco applications. Newer associative thickeners, such as UCAR POLYPHOBE™ Rheology Modifiers, are also effective in producing good applications rheology.
