Transactional Service Standards

About TSS

Dow’s transactional service standards establish consistent ordering and shipping policies for Dow's North American chemical product lines.

Our core set of transactional service standards address the following areas:

  • Compartmented tank truck policy
  • Destination points
  • Detention policies
  • Lead time
  • Liquid drum offering
  • “Max load” policy
  • Maximum products per shipment
  • Minimum order quantities
  • Source points
  • Standard and special equipment
  • Typical delivery windows

Why Standardize?
These new standards and policies reflect changes in the chemical and transportation industries — particularly related to carrier capabilities, capacity, and cost of transportation services. For example, capacity and service levels have been significantly impacted by rising fuel costs, regulatory constraints in trucking capacity, and an acute shortage of drivers.

Dow’s revised standards and policies also reflect carrier capabilities and Dow capabilities in a more realistic way. Dow conducted an extensive analysis of the capabilities of our internal supply organization, as well as our transportation carriers and distributors. From this analysis, we designed these standards and policies to better “reflect” these capabilities.

By simplifying and standardizing, we can be more consistent and reliable in meeting our commitments to our customers and distributors.

Implementing the Transactional Service Standards
Customers and distributors were notified of the specific service standards and policies in the second quarter of 2005. Dow sellers and customer service representatives are working with customers and distributors to help transition them to the new standards and policies, which will become effective for our North America chemicals businesses on July 1, 2005.

Details of each transactional service standard are on the Transactional Service Standards Documents page.
