Social Responsibility
Dow is committed to strengthening relationships with the communities where we operate and being part of the solution to solve some of the world's challenges. For more than forty years, the Companies of Dow in Thailand have followed that model, recognizing that not only is this key to economic prosperity, it is simply the right thing to do. Accordingly, we have worked hard to contribute to the development of local communities and to improve the health, safety and welfare of our employees and of the community in which we all live and work.
Our community projects can be grouped into three broad categories: health & environment, education & youth and community development. Some of Dow's community projects in Thailand are:
Health and Environment
- Cash donations and water purification projects for Tsunami hit areas
- Working with the Prosthesis Foundation using our technology to provide amputees with prostheses
- Provided financial support for Operation Smile, which performs surgeries for Thai children with cleft palates.
- Introduce 'Health and Safety Acknowledgement' Program in Schools in Rayong Province in conjunction with the Department of Occupation Health and Safety of Mahidol University
Awards and Achievements:
- 2009 Good Governance achievement for the Excellent Environmental Management and Social Responsibility Award from Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT).
- 2010 Zero Accident award achievement for the Excellent Safety Management from Ministry of Labor, Thailand.
Education and Youth
- Provided financial support for the National Council for Child and Youth Development Programs in Thailand which is an ongoing program from the 2004 tsunami
- Developed 'Self-Participatory Education Development Plan' in schools in Rayong
- Co-organized Science & Technology Innovation and Sustainability Awards to promote learning, technology, project management and innovation in sustainable development.
- Provided three-year financial and educational development project to students in Rayong Technical College
- Introduce 'Dow English club program' to develop English competency to the local students, taught by the Dow expatriate employees' wives as the volunteer teachers.
Community Development
- Sponsored International Coastal Cleanup Day, in conjunction with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and local businesses, to remove trash and clean a beach in Rayong
- Developed "Water Vending Machine Fund" to community in Rayong by installing water vending machines in community, which enables the villages to operate and maintain these machines on their own and then manage the income from the water vending machines to benefit the community.
- Provided donations and staff served as volunteer labor for Habitat for Humanity project
- Sponsored the "Build Your Dreams with Ink" contest, where we funded implementation of the dreams of winning students for their communities.
- Sponsored an eco-school campaign of Thailand Environmental Institute for eight schools in Rayong Province.
Award and achievement

Community Partnership Initiative
Dow is one of the five founding members along with PTT, SCG, BLCP, Glow to kick off industry community partnership center in 2010. The center is expected to be a link between the industrial sector and community to share knowledge, address critical issues, and respond to community needs. In addition, the Partnership focuses on raising the environmental standard of manufacturer in the industrial estate, increasing green area, health care, and education services for local communities.
