High Cis Polybutadiene Rubber (BR)

The Dow Chemical Company's (Dow) high-cis polybutadiene rubber (BR) series has over 95% cis content, produced using different catalyst systems based on nickel or cobalt. The varying catalyst systems lead to grades differing in branching and molecular weight distribution. Consequently, depending on performance requirements or processing behavior, the appropriate BR grade could be chosen. The high-cis BR grades possess good abrasion and flex-cracking resistance characteristics, low hysteresis as well as excellent low temperature resilience. They are used in tire tread and sidewall compounds, conveyor belts, footwear and in a variety of mechanical goods requiring good dynamic properties, e.g. golf ball cores.

In impact modification, cobalt-catalyzed high-cis BR provides improved stability at high processing temperatures in combination with excellent low-temperature performance of the final article. It can be used on all types of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) plants, fulfilling the requirements of rubber grinding, dissolving and phase inversion during styrene polymerization.
