Low Cis Polybutadiene Rubber (BR)

The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) offers low-cis polybutadiene rubber (BR) obtained from anionic polymerization using an organo-lithium initiator, Dow low-cis BR are predominantly used to manufacture high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) or mass ABS (mass polymerization of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers). They differ from cobalt high-cis BR by having a narrower molecular weight distribution and lower branching. This leads to reduced gel sensitivity. The higher vinyl content facilitates grafting, resulting in improved efficiency and excellent end-product properties, namely a good balance between impact strength and gloss.
