About Geoffery E. Merszei
Geoffery E. Merszei is the Executive Vice President of the Dow Chemical Company, President of Dow Europe, Middle East and Africa and Chairman of the company’s Geographic Leadership Council. He is also a member of the Dow Executive Leadership Committee, making him jointly responsible for corporate strategy.
Merszei has been with Dow since 1977. In 2001, he left the company to accept his appointment as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Alcan, Inc., before returning to Dow in July 2005 as its Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to joining Alcan, Merszei’s career at Dow spanned 24 years. In 1977, he began his career as a Credit Manager at Dow Middle East and Africa based in Geneva. In 1980, his career took him to Hong Kong, where he worked as a Credit Manager for Dow Asia Pacific. Two years later, he was promoted to Credit and Finance Manager.
In 1983, Merszei accepted a role as Treasurer for Dow Germany and Eastern Europe. Three years later, he made the transition to the Corporate Treasury division in Midland, Michigan, as a Foreign Exchange Manager, before returning to Hong Kong in 1988 to accept a role as Head of Finance.
In 1991, he took up the post of Director of Finance/Treasurer for Dow Europe in Horgen, Switzerland, where he was subsequently appointed Vice President and Treasurer of the company.
Today, Merszei sits on the Board of Directors of the Dow Corning Corporation and is a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the United States Council for International Business. Merszei holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Albion College, Michigan, USA.
