Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge Award
In alignment with Dow’s 2015 Sustainability Goals, the Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge Award (SISCA) program was launched in 2009. To promote forward thinking in social and environmental responsibility, SISCA acknowledges the energy, commitment and enthusiasm of the students and their university professors, sponsors and facilitators who support their sustainability innovations and efforts in continued excellence.
2012 brought a new generation of SISCA with recognition emphasizing the importance of collaboration. An updated brand and the addition of nine new universities reflect a more global program. We look to the spirit and power of collaboration for the achievement of long-lasting and impactful solutions.
SISCA Commitment - In order to ensure a more sustainable future, it’s essential that we promote and cultivate fresh ideas, innovative thinking and sustainable practices that balance environmental, societal and economic decisions. SISCA advances sustainable development, helping further Dow’s commitment to create positive change for tomorrow.
2012 Collaboration Event – On December 6th, an online collaboration event was held as the conclusion to the 2012 SISCA Challenge. Ursina Kohler, Dow’s SISCA Program Manager, hosted the event providing a recap of the 2012 program to the sixty event participants that included students, faculty and Dow representatives.
Presentations by Neil Hawkins, Dow Vice President, Environment, Health & Safety/Sustainability; Theresa Kotanchek, Dow Vice President, Sustainable Technologies, Innovation Sourcing; Don Scavia, University of Michigan; and Antje Danielson, Tufts University rounded out the agenda.
Participants were encouraged to engage in online discussions on global sustainability challenges & innovations and why they chose to participate in SISCA. Student project information can be found here.
