Upon conforming to biodegradability standards, the TERGITOL L Series Surfactants were recently re-released by The Dow Chemical Company. The L Series Surfactants pass OECD 301 readily-biodegradable screening tests and comply with the biodegradability criteria as defined in the Detergent Regulation (EC) No 648/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 March 2004 on detergents. Their biodegradability, in conjunction with their low acute environmental and mammalian toxicity, demonstrates that these products will not violate European hazard classification. As a result, they are an effective alternative to non-compliant surfactants found in formulations impacted by the European Detergent Regulation.

TERGITOL L Series Surfactants tout flexibility—making them ideal for use in cleaning products, food processing, food washing, water treatment, metal working, and paper processing. In addition, they may be used in applications which require or desire defoaming, wetting, and emulsifying properties. The L Series offer excellent solvency, low foam characteristics, and broad compatibility with formulation additives. They also provide good thermal and chemical stability, and are miscible in various organic liquids. The TERGITOL L Series Surfactants are liquid at room temperature and have little to no odor.

L Series products, specifically those available in North America, include TERGITOL L-61, TERGITOL L-62, TERGITOL L-64, TERGITOL-81, and TERGITOL L-101. Of these five, all are biodegradable with the exception of TERGITOL L-101 which does not comply with European Detergent Regulation.
