Fact Sheet

Build A Better Home All-Around

Insulating sheathings are the only insulation products that maximize heating and cooling efficiency while reducing the potential for moisture. And, when you consider the money-saving and comfort-enhancing benefits of STYROFOAM extruded polystyrene and polyisocyanurate rigid foam insulations from Dow, don't just think of frame walls. Consider ceilings, attics and foundations as well, since Dow manufactures products for all these applications. When you use Dow rigid foam insulation, you not only reduce your energy bills, you improve the overall performance of your home.

Here's How and Why:

  • Without an insulating sheathing surrounding your home, the wood framing beneath your siding/exterior surface goes uninsulated. Cavity insulation, like fiberglass batts, only insulates between the framing. In fact, wood framing, wiring and plumbing account for approximately 25% of an average home's exterior wall, where heat can escape in cold climates and intrude in warm climates. That's like leaving an entire side of your home uninsulated.

  • Some insulation products absorb and hold water which reduces insulation performance and is one of the necessary conditions for mold growth. STYROFOAM extruded polystyrene insulation resists water absorption and does not provide a nutrient source for molds. It offers the highest moisture resistance of any foam plastic insulation, provides long-term insulating performance while reducing the potential for mold growth within the insulation. The polyisocyanurate insulation products do no readily absorb moisture and do not provide a nutrient source for molds.

  • Dow rigid foam insulations offer R-value retention second to none, while many insulation products lose their R-value over time. (R-value is a measure of resistance to heat flow. The greater the R-value, the greater the thermal efficiency).

  • Dow rigid foam insulations won't sag, settle or mildew like cavity insulation.

  • Dow rigid foam insulations have been used in over two million homes, and some of the world's most famous buildings, such as the White House and the Taj Mahal.

  • Dow rigid foam insulations offer the best value for your insulation dollar.
