Dow co-sponsored the three-day building project, donated STYROFOAM* extruded polystyrene insulation for the home and sent a group of volunteers composed of Dow Building Materials† employees and customers to help with construction. The Dow team was joined by the Honourable Chris Hodgson, Ontario Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

The home, which was built on a raised platform at Toronto's Downsview Park as part of World Youth Day activities, was blessed by Pope John Paul II in a ceremony July 27 — 24 the largest home dedication in Habitat's 25-year history. Over 1,000,000 people attended the event. In early August the home was moved to its permanent location on Lovilla Drive, near Dow's Weston manufacturing plant.
