Ed Schreyer Work Project
Ontario, Canada — August 10 – 16, 2002 Dow Chemical Canada Inc. donated more than 72,000 board feet of STYROFOAM* extruded polystyrene insulation for eight Habitat homes at the ninth annual Ed Schreyer Work Project. Dow also joined forces with Weyerhaeuser Company to sponsor and build one of the eight new homes. Each company contributed a team of volunteers. In all, more than 1,000 volunteers worked alongside the Right Honourable Ed Schreyer, former Governor General of Canada, and his wife, Lily. An Ottawa couple, Mark MacIssac and his wife, Kathleen Newport, along with their two children, moved into the 1,000-square-foot, three-bedroom home sponsored by Dow. "Over the past year our family has been excitedly anticipating word from Habitat for Humanity. When we heard that we had been chosen, we were ecstatic," said Ms. Newport. "By partnering with Habitat for Humanity we have found an opportunity to make a positive impact on our children, our future and our community. We know that this is our chance to provide our children with stability and give them a better future."
