Moisture Resistance

Due to their closed-cell structure, TRYMER™ polyisocyanurate foam and STYROFOAM™ Panel Core products are resistant to water and water vapor, making them superior core material choices, even in high-humidity environments.

Moisture resistance is a particular concern in recreational vehicles and refrigerated trucks, where moisture-absorbing materials can cause delamination, which reduces the structural integrity of the panel system. It’s also a concern in pools, gymnasiums and sports arenas where water absorption of building components can impact the building’s long-term performance.

STYROFOAM Panel Core features low water absorption from 0.1 percent to 0.5 percent by volume, per ASTM 272, and low water vapor permeance from 0.8 perms to 1.5 perms (46 ng/Pa·s·m to 86 ng/Pa·s·m), per ASTM E96 (Permeability varies by product).

TRYMER core foams feature low water absorption less than 0.7 percent by volume, per ASTM C272, and low permeabilities from 1.1 perms-inch to 4 perms-inch (1.6 ng/Pa·s·m to 5.8 ng/Pa·s·m), per ASTM E96. (Permeability varies by product.)
