How to use INSTA-STIK™ roofing

Before starting application of INSTA-STIK roofing adhesive:

  • Substrate should be clean and dry
  • Wear protective eyewear and gloves
  1. Remove cylinder from the carton. Shake vigorously for a minimum of one minute using a side-to-side motion before attaching hose.
  2. Attach the swivel hose fitting on the end of the dispensing    hose to the threaded port of the cylinder valve. Once it is seated properly, tighten securely.
  3. Make sure brass ON/OFF valve attached to dispensing hose is in the OFF position.
  4. Attach the double threaded wand to the dispensing hose ON/OFF valve. Hand tighten.
  5. Slowly open the valve at the top of the cylinder until it is completely open. CHECK FOR LEAKS. If there are no leaks, INSTA-STIK is ready for use.
  6. Before dispensing INSTA-STIK roofing adhesive, slowly move the trigger of the ON/OFF valve to the ON position. Flow may be controlled by this ON/OFF valve.
  7. About 5 seconds before you want INSTA-STIK to stop  flowing, close the ON/OFF valve by moving the trigger to the OFF position. It is normal for a small amount of adhesive to flow from the nozzle after the valve is closed.
  8. The INSTA-STIK bead size should be between 19 – 25 mm. The required distance between the beads may vary with building perimeter band of the roof, depending on slope as well as building and parapet wall height. To calculate the amount of INSTA-STIK needed as well as the distance between the beads please refer to the INSTA-STIK data sheet.
  9. When applying INSTA-STIK, the insulation boards must be placed end-to-end with staggered joints in alternating rows. Set board into the adhesive beads within three minutes. Walk on the boards immediately to spread the beads for maximum contact. Continue to walk on the insulation boards every 5-7 minutes until the insulation is firmly attached, usually 20-45 minutes. NOTE: Humidity directly affects curing time. Under low humidity conditions, the insulation boards must be walked on more often until firmly attached.
  10. When using 600x1200 mm or smaller insulation boards, the beads should be placed across the 600 mm width.
  11. After emptying INSTA-STIK place the wand and hose on a new INSTA-STIK canister. Procedure: Close valve tank, open on/off trigger valve to release residual pressure. Wearing gloves and protective eyewear undo the swivel hose fitting form the tank and transfer to a new tank. Dispense some INSTA-STIK immediately.
  12. Before disposal the empty canister should be placed upside down in the original carton and the valve opened to release any residual pressure.

Further Recommendations

  • Storage between temperatures of +15°C and +30°C for best results
  • Ambient and substrate temperature +5°C to +40°C
  • Between using INSTA-STIK (including overnight) leave the valve on the top of the tank open, and close ON/OFF valve leaving adhesive in the hose length.
  • If the end of the wand becomes blocked cut off approximately 10-25mm until clear.
  • All pressure must be released from cylinder before disposal. Thereafter canister is common steel waste for a scrap yard.
  • Minimum thickness of steel in metal decks: min. 20 gauge steel – min. 0,92 mm standard steel - min. 1,00 mm galvanized steel.
