About STYROFOAM - Country Information

Energy Saving
Energy for heating and cooling reportedly accounts for a significantly high percentage of the total energy consumption in China. As energy costs rise, finding ways to reduce consumption has become one of the most critical issues now. High quality insulation materials are necessary to replace inexpensive but low-performance traditional products.

Farm Land Erosion
The use of traditional bricks in building construction is now regulated because farmland is badly damaged by overuse of its rich soils. Instead, the use of concrete blocks is encouraged for building walls because they reduce the use of arable soil for non-agricultural purposes.

Roofing Systems
Roofing insulation is the most conventional application for STYROFOAM* Brand Insulation and is absolutely critical in both cold and hot climates. In this application, it is subjected to the most severe weathering throughout the life of the building.

Traditional insulation materials in China have been perlite cement mortar, ventilated roof tiles without insulation and multi-layered bituminous roofing (built-up roofing). With these materials, water leakage is a constant concern.

Now Insulated Roof Membrane Assembly (called Upside-Down roofing) with STYROFOAM Brand Insulation is becoming more popular, along with a wide variety of membranes such as single-ply membranes of plastic, bitumen and liquid membranes, as well as traditional bituminous built-up roofing. Reasons: STYROFOAM Brand products offer high insulation value, superior moisture resistance and excellent compressive strength.
