Plastic Spheres

Styrene has been copolymerized with Divinylbenzene to form tough plastic beads that act like ball bearings and function as a lubricant in well drilling applications. They are also useful as grinding media for:

Deburring
Deflashing
Grinding kaolin clay

Some grades produced with a very low ash content can be ground and used as fillers for investment casting. Because they are highly cross-linked, Styrene- Divinylbenzene copolymer beads are insoluble in organic solvents and do not melt at elevated temperatures.
