SCONAPOR – high grade expandable polystyrene from Dow

SCONAPOR™ EPS beads offer impressive mechanical properties such as high shock absorbance and compressive strength, as well as good heat insulating ability. They are also distinguished by their low weight.

Polystyrene rigid foams, manufactured from SCONAPOR, are primarily used in construction applications like, complete building insulation, perimeter insulation and impact sound insulation. In the packaging industry foam parts moulded from SCONAPOR EPS beads reliably protect products from impact and moisture.

Manufacturing

In 1996, as the first in a series of investments made by the former BSL-Olefinverbund (now Dow Olefinverbund GmbH), the plant was set-up for the production of expandable polystyrene.

However, SCONAPOR had been manufactured in Schkopau since the end of seventies, using a proprietary process. The EPS quality has been continuously improved in response to changing market conditions.

The Dow Olefinverbund GmbH is a highly competitive chemicals company and subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company. Ultramodern and safe plants manufacture effectively and in an environmentally responsible way. Dow Olefinverbund GmbH is certified and operates according to the quality management system DIN EN ISO 9001. SCONAPOR production is also monitored by third parties and regularly checked by independent test facilities.
