R&D Magazine's 100 Best Products
"Dow definitely delivered on the award criteria with the unique capability of QUASH sound management foam to reduce noise. My congratulations go out to Dow and its employees." – Tim Studt, Editor-in-Chief of R&D Magazine and Chairman of the R&D 100 Awards

The R&D Award competition recognizes the most significant new  products introduced into the marketplace over the past year. Started in the 1960s, the program is unique in its recognition of technological significance across multiple industries. Today, the R&D 100 Awards remain the only industry-wide competition rewarding the practical applications of science.

"The sole criterion for making the grade is demonstrable technological significance compared with competing products and technologies," says Tim Studt, Editor-in-Chief of R&D Magazine and Chairman of the R&D 100 Awards. "Dow definitely delivered on the award criteria with the unique capability of QUASH™ sound management foams to reduce noise. My congratulations go out to Dow and its employees."

Developed by The Dow Chemical Company's Fabricated Products business, QUASH sound management foams are used in industrial, transportation, building and acoustical applications to absorb sound and block sound transmission. Compared to conventional open-cell, fiber-based or porous materials of the same thickness, QUASH foams generally perform better at low to medium frequencies (less than 2000 Hz).

Two mechanisms contribute to the sound-absorptive qualities of QUASH sound management foams.

  • Sound energy is dissipated through the vibration of cell walls and cavities.
  • Selective perforation of the cells can also alter the frequency range for
    optimal sound absorption.

QUASH sound management foams can satisfy several functions with one material, enabling significant cost reductions. Extruded from water-resistant polyolefin resins, the foams maintain mechanical integrity and acoustical performance over time — even when exposed to harsh conditions. And QUASH foams are fiber- and formaldehyde-free, reusable and recyclable.

Large closed-cell structure Absorb sound and block sound transmission Deliver consistent acoustical performance and remain lightweight
QUASH sound management foams consist of a unique large closed-cell structure. QUASH sound management foams can absorb sound and block sound transmission as well as competitive materials up to 20 percent thicker. QUASH sound management foams deliver consistent acoustical performance and remain lightweight — even after immersion in water or prolonged exposure to high humidity.

Easily cut, routed, hot welded or laminated Stand up to the elements and deliver long-lasting performance
QUASH sound management foams can be easily cut, routed, hot welded or laminated. Very large QUASH panels can be assembled without glue. Used in highway sound panels, QUASH sound management foams stand up to the elements and deliver long-lasting performance.
