Letter from the Site Leader — Bob Walker

When Texas Operations poured its first magnesium ingot in Freeport, not many people could have guessed we would celebrate our 65th Anniversary in the same location and as the largest manufacturing site in The Dow Chemical Company. Last year was a remarkable year for Texas Operations, its employees and the community as we celebrated that milestone.
As part of our celebration, we reenergized our commitment to our neighbors and donated more than $1.1 million to our local community, including more than $180,000 to local non-profit agencies through the Community Grants Program and nearly $50,000 to local schools through our new Education Grants Program that focuses on the science and math skills on which our industry depends.
Our site EH&S (Environment, Health and Safety) highlight for the year was receiving the Responsible Care Management System Certification from Lloyd’s Quality Register Assurance. Texas Operations was the first large site to go through the audit and I’m proud to say we passed with flying colors. Texas Operations’ employees have set the standard.
Corporately in 2006, the company launched its 2015 goals that reflect Dow’s commitment to the principles of Responsible Care and have a broad external focus: 1) strengthening our relationships with the communities where we operate, 2) continuing to improve our product stewardship and innovation, and 3) reducing our global footprint.
You will see much more on this topic in the future, and I’m sure we will all work to achieve the goals set before us. It will take all the people of The Dow Chemical Company to reach those 2015 goals, and Texas Operation’s efforts will have a substantial, positive impact on our company’s progress against them.
Bob Walker
Vice President of Dow Texas Operations
