Progress Towards Implementation of Responsible Care®
Seadrift Operations has a very proactive community outreach and emergency response program and is a leading company with the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and mutual aid group.
Our community survey results indicate public perception of our Safety, Health, and Environment efforts is high. We have received awards from the American Chemistry Council, Texas Chemical Council, Texas General Land Office, Calhoun County Soil and Water Conservation District. Assessment process promotes our practice of the Responsible Care and Sustainable Development principles. We have an active on-site recycling program and are a major co-sponsor of household hazardous waste (HHWD) collection day and Beach Cleanups.
We have continued to meet with our site's near neighbors (those who live within five miles of the site) since 1998 to share information about our operations and performance relative to Environment, Health, and Safety issues, and to provide a forum for them to share their concerns.
Progress on the Codes of Management Practice
Seadrift Operations continues to review and implement changes that will make the vision of zero injuries or illnesses a reality. The site has made progress in reducing Losses of Primary Containment (LOPC) in light of lowered Reportable Quantities (RQs), tougher reporting criteria, and an increase in trackable substances.
