Seadrift Operations began the Community Advisory Panel (CAP) program with the goal of building trust, cooperation and mutual respect between the site and the communities where we live and work.
A Community Advisory Panel is a citizen group formed to facilitate and enhance consistent communication between local citizens and chemical plants. Originally a part of the Chemical Manufacturers Association's Responsible Care® Program, CAPs provides a mechanism for the public to voice concerns and questions, and provides chemical facilities an opportunity to address those issues.
CAP Annual Report 2006
Seadrift has had a single company Community Advisory Panel (CAP) in place since 1992. Seadrift’s CAP membership consists of 16 members who represent several local communities that call the site ‘neighbor’. Nine meetings were held in 2006.
CAP topics discussed included:
- Meet and greet with Site Production and Functional Leaders
- Employee Affinity Networks
- Introduction to 2015 Sustainability Goals, and results vs. 2005 goals
- Tour of new poly warehouse
- 2005 Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)
- Employee Communications Tools
- Safety Improvements at Seadrift Operations
- Household Hazardous Waste Day
- Seadrift Waste and Emission reduction projects
“Seadrift Operations maintains an excellent line of communication between the citizens and the corporation,” said one Community Advisory Panel Member. “The site has a long standing, active responsibility both to the employees and the neighboring communities.”
