St. Charles Operations is an integrated petrochemical manufacturing complex, converting petroleum-based raw materials into a variety of basic building-block and intermediate chemicals. - Started operations in 1966 as Union Carbide Corporation
- Union Carbide acquired as a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company in February 2001
- 2000-acre site just upriver from Hahnville and 40-acre site in Norco
- Invested more than $1 billion in expansions, new process units and infrastructure in the 1990s
- Integrated production with own steam and power generation
- Approximately 10 billion pounds of production capacity per year
- Multiple intermediate products are found in a variety of consumer goods such as: plastics, insecticides, films and fabrics, antifreeze, jet fuel, brake fluid, paints and adhesives, textiles, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, personal care products, toothpaste, shampoos, soaps, cleaning agents, detergents, fabric softeners, animal feed supplements and more.
