Competitive Edge — New Investment and Site Rededication

Site Rededication

New investments in Michigan Operations and a multi-year turnaround for the site were recognized at a site rededication in September 2006. Michigan Operations has made significant progress in becoming more globally competitive, which has enabled us to keep current business and attract new business.

More than $240 million in investments have been made in the past two years by multiple businesses, including Dow AgroSciences, Dow Automotive, DowPharma, Saran Products, and the company’s Water Soluble Polymers business.

At the rededication, Dow President and CEO Andrew Liveris said, “In the past two years, Michigan Operations has lured many investors to the site, meeting demand for strong technical resources, world-class research and development, a flexible workforce, proximity to key markets, outstanding process expertise, and other strengths.”

The impact is significant: 160 full-time jobs, the retention of at least 45 more jobs, and a stronger overall economy at the local, regional and state level. Liveris also noted a substantial investment in training and skill advancement of approximately $12 million. In addition, the site investments are being made by several performance businesses that are targeted for long-term strategic growth.

At the rededication, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm congratulated Michigan Operations on winning the business – especially when the investments could have gone to any Dow location around the world.
