Emissions
Note: Reporting begins with 1999 because that was the first year information could be translated from UCC reporting standards to Dow standard.
Chemical Emissions
The emissions in 2005 decreased slightly by more than 9%. This decrease is due to improvements in operating discipline as identified by a Six Sigma Improvement Project. Additional reductions occurred in 2005 as a result of improved fugitive emissions monitoring. There was less overall production at the site in 2005 due to the events associated with Hurricane Katrina, further reducing emissions.

Emissions of Priority Compounds
A one time event in 2005 caused the reported emissions of priority compounds to be slightly above that reported in 2004. This event shadowed the improvement efforts that have reduced emissions from flaring and fugitive emissions.

Emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)
A trend in yearly reductions in VOC emission continued in 2005. A more significant reduction would have been realized but events caused by Hurricane Katrina resulted in higher VOC emissions during that event. The before mentioned improvements in the fugitive emissions program and a reduction in flaring events has attributed to the VOC emission reduction.

CO2 Emissions per Pound of Production
A reduction in CO2 emissions was realized in 2005 but is not evident due to the fact that there was less production volume in 2005 vs. 2004. The decrease in production was caused by down time from Hurricane Katrina and a major maintenance turnaround in the Hydrocarbons Facility.
Disclaimer: Slight adjustments made to data for previous years due to a reclassification in reporting.
