Letter from the Site Leader Joe Krkoska
A great year for Dow
The Dow Chemical Company had a record year in 2005 and put an exclamation point on the accomplishments of Dow people around the world. Dow set a new "best" in safety performance as well as having record sales and earnings. This performance provides clear testament that the corporate strategy is working and is positioning the company well for the future! (Dow Corporate Report 2005)
More challenges for the Pittsburg site, with a great amount accomplished
There was no relief at all in 2005 in terms of the number of challenges presented to our site team throughout the year. The very good news, however, is that changes implemented have begun to make a very positive difference. Our most significant objective for the year was to make a favorable impact on injury performance. In many departments on site, we have been able to set new all time highs on "days without an injury", and we are raising our site average on this metric. Our Site Mission and Vision remain unchanged as we move forward, with EHS excellence and a globally competitive economic performance being centerpieces of our thinking. In general, demand for our products on site continued to grow. Our site remains a critical and necessary part of the supply chain for the businesses we serve around the world.
Late in the year we were given a "green light" for completion of our ProFume® Project. This is key for this particular business and also an important accomplishment that adds to site viability. Additionally, we have begun work on other strategic investments and those too will add to the viability of our site.
A look ahead
We will continue to focus on safety performance improvement, and on improving our global competitive position through asset reliability. Our outlook on demand for our products remains strong and the improvements and changes made in 2005 are beginning to show results that will enhance our ability to compete around the world. We expect positive momentum to build in 2006.
This report is to share with you, key stakeholders in our success and indeed keepers of our license to operate, the details around a number of our site’s activities. We value our relationship with you and believe that sharing our data, our performance and our business objectives is central to continuing to build that relationship and earn our place in the community. On behalf of all of our site employees, thank you for your continued support!
