Letter from the Site Leader

Susan Carrington

2005 was another landmark year for Dow and for Michigan Operations. We experienced new business investments at our site and continued to enjoy economic prosperity. Safety performance was solid and as always, our emphasis on safe operations was our most important priority. This report describes in detail our efforts toward making Michigan Operations the safest manufacturing facility in the Dow world.

2005 also marked the end of our first set of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) goals, known to us as the 2005 EH&S Goals. Our 2005 EH&S Goals compelled us to stretch beyond our own expectations to achieve breakthroughs in personal and plant safety, and they challenged us to think differently about our own capabilities. As we look back on our performance during that 10-year period, it’s clear we had some successes and there also were areas where we still have work to do.

Our next set of 10-year measures, we which refer to as our 2015 Sustainability Goals, will have a broader external focus and include the areas of product impact, our responsibilities to the communities where we operate, as well as our overall impact on the world. Watch for more information on those in the coming weeks and months.

In terms of physical changes, the site is taking on a new look with the demolition of the landmark 47 Building. Our site’s headquarters simply could no longer be updated, so the employees there moved to other site locations and the building was scheduled for demolition.

As this letter is posted, there is one final change occurring, and that is my transition out of the site leader role, which is being filled by David Dupree. David brings a strong leadership record to the role and will surely continue to drive the site forward toward success.

I invite you to review this report to learn more about our site’s effort to be a good corporate citizen and neighbor. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to our continued success and we look forward to working together to make Michigan Operations the best manufacturing site at Dow.

Susan Carrington,
Michigan Operations Site Leader*

*Effective July 2006, David Dupre succeeded Susan as Vice President of Michigan Operations.
