About Us

The Rhine Center, as it is known today, was created in April 1993. It is the site which now combines the Drusenheim site in France and the Rheinmünster site in Germany, which were previously separate, independent sites.

Legally the two locations still belong to separate entities, Dow France S.A.S. and Dow AgroSciences S.A.S. for Drusenheim in France, and Dow Deutschland GmbH & Co. OHG for Rheinmünster in Germany. Since their integration under one management concept, they are, however, run as one site. Drusenheim and Rheinmünster are about six kilometers apart. The river Rhine running between them can be crossed by ferry.

The Rhine Center enjoys the favorable location in the very heart of Europe. It is close to its main customers and not far from important European cities like Strasbourg, Karlsruhe and Basel.

Other advantages of this location include an excellent traffic network and the on-site harbor and railway connection in Rheinmünster.

Through its functional, operational, as well as cultural diversity, the Rhine Center is unique among the Dow sites worldwide. For example: communication here is in three languages: English, German and French.

Our manufacturing activities are supported by functions such as Environmental Operations, Maintenance and Site Logistics. Environmental Operations manages the biological oxidation plant, which is responsible for all site wastewater treatment. An essential element of the site logistic system is our Intermodal Container Terminal (ICT). The term 'intermodal' means that it can switch between different types of transport, i.e. road and rail, and is in line with Dow's philosophy of promoting environmentally friendly transport such as rail.

The Research and Development Center based in Rheinmünster is an important component of Dow's European organization. It employs about 150 people and supports European and global activities. Approximately US $30 million are invested annually for research and testing of new products and technologies for epoxy resins, latex and building and construction products.

The European Technical Service & Development group for Liquid Separations is also located at the Rhine Center in Rheinmünster. Its activities focus on constantly improving Dow's technologies for water purification and treatment systems used to supply safe and clean drinking water to households, process water for industry and for the desalination of seawater. A more specialized application is the production of ultra-pure water for electronic, food and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Rheinmünster is also the home of the European Order Fulfillment Centers for Emulsion Polymers, epoxy products and Liquid Separations, handling all order activities. The Order Fulfillment Center for Building and Construction is based in Drusenheim. The Financial Operations hosted at the Rhine Centre provide a wide range of services to Dow in Europe.
