On December 9, 2004, more than 600 spectators — mostly children of course, but a large number of mums and dads, too — answered Dow’s invitation to watch a musical in the sports hall in Rheinmünster-Greffern. “Jim Knopf and Lukas the Engine Driver” was the name of the play by Michael Ende, well known also through the successful performance of the puppet theatre in Augsburg. For the thirteenth time during advent that year, Dow issued invitations to all children in the surrounding area and for the fifth time the young audience included two classes from Alsace, this time from Herrlisheim.
The children watched fascinated as young Jim Knopf and his friend Lukas traveled with the locomotive, Emma, from the island of Lummerland to China to save the princess LiSi from the clutches of the dragon Mrs. Mahlzahn (Mrs. Molar in English). Dow’s community children event was organized as usual by the Works Council, helped by representatives of the Youth and Apprentices teams.
All the children were given a shoulder bag as a present at the end and many happy faces could be seen leaving the hall after the play. This year too, the children’s creativity will be tested in a painting and handicraft competition on the subject of the play, with attractive prizes waiting for our young participants.
