Community Advisory Panel (CAP) Overview
The Community Advisory Panel (CAP) in Rheinmünster celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2001. It was the first CAP Dow had in Europe. At about 65 meetings, the 15 Rheinmünster CAP members have dealt with a wealth of topics from current projects to the role of Dow in the region, and from the industrial chemicals industry in general to safety and environmental protection. The Dow management team has always supported the group's work and Dow experts have always been on hand to discuss each topic. The CAP has improved the flow of information between Dow and the local citizens and created greater transparency for new Dow projects. For example, Dow was made aware of the traffic problems experienced by local residents as a result of transport trucks, and cooperation between the site fire brigade and voluntary brigades has increased the performance level of the firefighters. In Drusenheim, the Community Advisory Panel was formed in 2003. The 2003 meetings offered the CAP members and the Dow representatives excellent opportunities for getting to know one another better, in a climate of open communication and trust. Safety, the environment and also health, have been among the other subjects discussed at the meetings. In 2004 main topics like new industrial risk legislation in France lead to open discussion between the CAP members and the representatives of the authorities. The dialogue focused on the frame and the results of the inspections carried out at the Dow site in Drusenheim. Site logistics and chemical goods transportation were also interesting topics for the CAP, as well as the visit of the Rheinmünster site, well covered by the French and German local press. Members of the CAP are invited to highlight the quality and transparency of the relationships that have been built with the company. By passing on the communication and information to which they have access to those around them, group members are consolidating the links already established between the site and the local community. |
