Dow's Louisiana Operations produces more than 50 different basic and specialty chemical products. You might not find our basic chemical products on your store shelves, but they help produce hundreds of consumer and commercial products that improve everyone's lives daily.
For example, our caustic soda is a key ingredient in soaps and bleach, while the site's methyl cellulose is used in cosmetics, shampoos and detergents. Our METHOCEL™ is a food-grade product we make from wood pulp. It's used as a thickener for many foods like syrup, pie fillings and whipped cream. It's also used to create time-released medicines and to keep those "fast-food" french fries extra crispy.
Diapers get a boost from polyethylene made in Plaquemine, and chlorine is found in many health-related products, including cleaners, bleach, water purification and even medicines.
