Ensuring the safety and security of our products is a top priority for Dow. In Europe, Dow fully complies with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances (REACH) that ensures risks associated with chemical substances are managed consistently throughout the EU.

Meeting this critical first deadline is a clear demonstration of Dow’s commitment to REACH. Dow successfully registered all manufactured or imported products meeting the 2010 criteria by the first REACH registration deadline in November 2010. Preparations to meet the next registration deadline of 2013 are now underway, and as part of its 2015 Sustainability Goals, Dow plans to register all remaining substances three years ahead of the 2018 REACH deadline.

Dow is also engaged in efforts to improve public policies related to the safe management of chemicals. Dow recommends several measures that can improve the effectiveness and greater harmonisation of REACH. Among the improvements EU authorities should consider are: consistent enforcement among Member States; greater industry involvement in the legislative process; and a more clear definition of this complex legislation while reducing administrative burden and confusion.

Involving the manufacturing industry in the legislation process is essential to ensuring compliance and creating high-quality policies and regulation. Ultimately, greater collaboration will lead to greater chemical safety and a stronger, more prosperous chemical industry serving as a cornerstone of European economies.
