Dow Earns Top EH&S
Performance Award

In October 2010, the National Safety Council awarded its Robert W. Campbell Award to Dow in recognition of an unwavering commitment to upholding Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) as a key business value and clearly linking measurable achievement in EH&S performance to productivity and profitability.

Dow is the ninth company – and the first chemical company ever – to earn this award.

The Issue
Our society and the global economy depend on products that require the highest levels of expertise and security in handling, storing and transporting throughout the value chain. These products are critical ingredients in medicines, plastics, automobiles, appliances and building materials, just to name a few. In today's world, the threat of global terrorism has placed an increased focus on the security preparedness and emergency response capability of the chemical industry. At Dow, we have stepped up to this challenge by permanently heightening our level of security and increasing our manufacturing safety measures around the world.

Our Global Position
The Dow Chemical Company is a global leader in security and public safety. Our commitment to the security of our sites, products and communities has always been, and continues to be, deeply embedded in our company's culture and business processes.

Throughout our history and without government mandates, Dow has acted decisively to build on the company's strong foundation to permanently heighten the level of security at our operations, nurturing a long standing working relationship of cooperation, communication and readiness with our communities and local responders. Dow has invested millions of dollars to upgrade security and manufacturing safety systems globally, and we have trained side-by-side with communities and first responders through the Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) and Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) programs.  But the work continues. We are constantly assessing the risks to our facilities, supply chain and information systems; and we are constantly working with our partners to reduce those risks.

While the primary responsibility for public security rests with governments around the world, Dow is strongly committed to working with industry and the governments where we operate to help address safety and security needs.
