Unsaturated Polyester Resins

Propylene glycol is the preferred glycol for manufacturing high-performance unsaturated polyester resins (UPR) for many thermoset composite applications. Propylene Glycol Industrial Grade (PGI)  is an excellent choice for these applications. For applications that require more flexible or hydrolytically stable resins, dipropylene glycol is used.       

Common UPR application areas include:

  • Reinforced plastic laminates for marine construction, bathware and shower stalls
  • Electrical components
  • Pipes
  • Tanks
  • Ducts
  • Sheet molding compounds (SMC) for the automobile and transportation industries.

Non-reinforced thermoset applications include:

  • Gel coats
  • Buttons
  • Synthetic marble castings
