Propylene Glycol USP/EP (PG USP/EP) has a “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) (21CFR184.1666) designation for use in pet food and animal feeds (excluding cat food; see 21CFR582.1666):

  • Solvent
  • Stabilizer
  • Preservative
  • Energy source
  • Humectant for moist feeds
  • Dust control agent for dry feed ingredients
  • Wetting agent for molasses
  • Lowers freezing temperature of feed
  • Preventative for ketosis

PG USP/EP from Dow is produced and handled in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines, issued by The International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC). These GMP principles minimize the risk of contamination, adulteration or misuse of the product throughout the entire supply chain. End users of PG USP/EP from Dow can rely on a high quality and consistent product.

In countries of the European Union, propylene glycol is not cleared as a general-purpose animal feed additive. European Council Directive 70/524/EC specifies the type and function of PG as an additive for specific animal species and with maximum use levels.
