Propylene Glycols (PGs) are liquid, aliphatic organic compounds that have two hydroxyl groups per molecule. Chemically, PG is an alcohol, like sugars or ethyl alcohol (ethanol). Ethyl alcohol is almost three times more toxic than propylene glycol.

PGs resemble water in that they are essentially clear, colorless liquids with little detectable odor. They are excellent solvents for many organic compounds and are completely water-soluble. Since they can undergo chemical reactions on one or both hydroxyl groups, they are important chemical intermediates.
