Topcoat
HYDRHOLAC AD-1 is an aqueous dispersion of a high performance silica with a low Tg (-43°C) acrylic polymer. HYDRHOLAC AD-1 is designed to be the "dull" component in a typical high performance automotive finish complemented by a "bright" component which can be either an acrylic emulsion or polyurethane dispersion. Additionally, HYDRHOLAC AD-1 is a natural fit for furniture topcoats due to its high performance and soft feel. Reference starting point topcoat formulations follow the physical property section below.
HYDRHOLAC AD-1 can also be used as the major resin in combination with polyurethane dispersions for basecoat finishing. HYDRHOLAC AD-1 is especially recommended for basecoats containing isocyanate crosslinkers, as it provides increased pot-life, or when embossing on the topcoat is practiced.
Key application and physical properties of finishes formulated with HYDRHOLAC AD-1 are:
Topcoat Properties
- outstanding cold flex
- excellent aesthetics
- good wear performance
- excellent yellowing resistance
- solvent free
- low cost
- enhanced flow out
Basecoat Properties
- excellent plating properties
- excellent embossing properties
- stable with isocyanate
- softer than SB-300
- good mechanical stability
- low cost
- enhanced flow out
HYDRHOLAC AD-1 offers a wide balance of properties making it suitable for all leather types and is compatible with Dow binders and auxiliaries.
It is important to note finishes based on HYDRHOLAC AD-1 can meet high wear properties and as with all acrylics does not contain n-methyl pyrrolidone.
HYDRHOLAC AD-1 is supplied as a medium-viscosity liquid that is particularly easy to handle and formulate. As with many dulling agents, it is best to always stir AD-1 prior to use and to minimize extended storage conditions.
These properties are typical but do not constitute specifications.
