PRIMACOR* copolymers can be formulated with many fillers, pigments, dyes and polymers to modify the properties of the base polymer. Depending on the formulation, the acid functionality of PRIMACOR may interact with the pigment and filler, providing good compatibility. In other cases, the acid functionality may lead to cross-linking problems and other undesired reactions.

Cross-linking can occur with aluminum trihydrate (ATH) or magnesium hydroxide (MgOH2) if decomposition of the hydrate or hydroxide occurs during the extrusion or compounding steps. Similar problems may occur with metal oxides, amines, epoxides, metal carbonates and some antistats. These additives may also react at processing conditions.

In many cases, these reactions are desirable, leading to new products. However, all reactions should be approached with full knowledge of the reaction potential and the results they may yield. Generally, it is best to do small scale testing with additives, and to get recommendations from additive suppliers.
