Dow Declares Force Majeure for Polyether Polyols

Midland, MI - September 19, 2008

The Dow Chemical Company (“Dow”) announced that it has declared force majeure for all polyether polyol products manufactured at Freeport, Texas, due to the impact of Hurricane Ike, which has severely disrupted Dow’s ability to safely and properly produce these products.

In addition, widespread disruptions in power and utilities, raw material supplies and logistics, including disruptions generated by Hurricane Gustav, have all slowed down Dow’s recovery efforts and a return to normal operations, shipments, and deliveries.

The polyols plant at Freeport, which was temporarily idled in preparation for Hurricane Ike, has remained idle following the Hurricane to allow for damage assessments, and only now is being mobilized to resume production.

Dow has notified its customers of the situation and will be providing more updates as circumstances change over the coming days.
