CONTINUUM™ Bimodal Polyethylene Resins

Covering all the Bases in Polyethylene Pipe

If you've been looking for pipe grade materials made of HDPE polyethylene resins that meet or exceed ASTM PE4710 standards, a MDPE polyethylene resin that meets or exceeds ASTM PE2708 standards or using a PE 100 resin for your applications, then look no further than the industry's leading line of resins for pipe from The Dow Chemical Company (Dow). CONTINUUM™ Bimodal Polyethylene resins are the result of many years of product development and testing, offering outstanding lifetimes, world-class integrity, and broader service conditions.

They are appropriate for pressure pipe and fitting applications including:

  • Natural gas distribution
  • Potable water and irrigation applications
  • Oil and gas production
  • Industrial and chemical processing and mining
  • Mining (slurry and leachates)
  • Industrial chemicals

Using UNIPOL™ II Process Technology, Dow is able to combine state-of-the-art, gas-phase, staged reactor technology with strong material science to produce an engineered polyethylene with advanced molecular architecture. These new materials provide enhanced performance characteristics such as:

  • Superior Slow Crack Growth (SCG) resistance
  • High temperature / pressure performance
  • Increased toughness (especially at low temperatures)
  • Increased tensile strength and modulus
  • Excellent resistance to Rapid Crack Propagation (RCP)
  • Enhanced fusion to MDPE and other HDPE pipe grades
  • Longer life expectancy of pipe than traditional pipe materials

If you are looking ahead to the adoption of ISO PE 100 standards for pipe grade materials in North America, you will definitely want to consider CONTINUUM DGDA-2490 NT Bimodal Polyethylene resin. Not only does this material meet ISO PE 100 requirements, but depending on the application requirements, you may be able to operate at higher pressures and temperatures … or under the current ASTM standards, potentially reduce material costs by downgauging a pipe's wall thickness. Dow also offers CONTINUUM DGDA-2490 BK, a PE 100 black version of DGDA-2490 NT, for fittings. For your heavy wall application, use CONTINUUM DGDA-2492 NT, a PE 100 resin especially designed to sustain the high performance demand of heavy wall fabrication.
