Faster Route to Optimal Process Development

Our fermentation process development lab employs fully capable Applikon µ-24 mini-bioreactors and multiple DASGIP Parallel Bioreactor Systems. Fully controlled stainless steel bioreactors of 20 L (16x), 75 L (2x) and 1,500 L (2x) are available for large scale cultures and capable of supporting high cell densities and product yields.

SPEED

We have developed a rapid approach of parallel strain selection and fermentation development to enable our Pfēnex Expression Technology™ clients to express their recombinant proteins reliably and cost-effectively. This involves a fermentation development process using fully capable mini-bioreactors which is consistently predictable of high density in large scale conventional bioreactors. This enables us to expeditiously select a production strain and select a base fermentation process promptly for each project. Statistical experimental designs are routinely performed.

QUALITY

The fermentation process employs a low-cost mineral salts medium without any animal-derived components or antibiotics. Fully scalable process conditions are selected which ensure the production of soluble, active protein on a consistent basis.

COST OF GOODS

The high cell density fermentation process has been rapidly scaled to thousands of liters for the production of many proteins. This process has been successfully transferred to a number of GMP facilities for clinical manufacturing of therapeutic and vaccine proteins.
