Dow and Davy License LP OxoSM Technology to Wison (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co., Ltd. in China
Midland, MI, USA; London, England; Shandong, China - October 28, 2011
Davy Process Technology Limited (DPT), a Johnson Matthey company, and The Dow Chemical Company's (Dow) Oxygenated Solvents business announced that Wison (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (Wison Energy), a member company of the Wison Group located in Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park in China, has selected LP OxoSM SELECTORSM 10 Technology for its new oxo alcohols plant in Nanjing, China. With this licence, Wison Energy will build a LP OxoSM plant with capacity of 125 kta of 2-ethylhexanol and 125 kta of butanols. Wison Energy's Nanjing Plant currently operates a 600 kta carbon monoxide plant and supplies carbon monoxide, synthesis gas, hydrogen, and methanol to other facilities located in the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park. Wison Energy's new LP Oxo plant is the 15th LP OxoSM license to be granted in China, and the third to be announced this year. "We are honoured Wison Energy has selected LP OxoSM SELECTORSM 10 Technology" said Antoine Bordet, Managing Director of DPT. "This will be our 47th LP Oxo project and we look forward to working with Wison Energy from process design to successful start-up". In addition to the license agreement, Dow and Wison Energy also signed a product purchase agreement whereby Dow will purchase a portion of product over a certain period of time from Wison Energy's LP Oxo plant. "Having simultaneously concluded both the license and product purchase agreements creates additional benefits. Wison Energy benefits from baseloading its new plant, and Dow benefits by gaining access to future product from a state-of-the-art facility," said Alan Robinson, Asian Business Director, Oxygenated Solvents and LP Oxo Technology Licensing Business Director, Dow. "Wison is glad to collaborate with DPT and Dow," commented by Mr. Liu Hongjun, General manager of Wison Energy, "By introduction of the cutting edge LP OxoSM Technology from DPT and Dow, as well as signing a supply agreement with Dow, it helps us to broaden our product portfolio and enhance our strategic position to become a leading basic chemical raw material supplier in China by adopting advanced and clean technology." Other recently announced LP OxoSM SELECTORSM Technology licenses in China include: YanKuang Cathay Acetyl Chemical Company (China) - YanKuang Cathay Acetyl Chemicals Co., Ltd. (YKCC) is one of China's largest state-owned coal mining companies. YKCC selected LP OxoSM SELECTORSM 10 Technology for its new facility and will build a new 150 kta butanols plant with capacity of 136 kta of normal butanol, most of which will be used for the internal production of butyl acetate. Shandong Province (China) - The licencing of a new 140 kta 2-ethylhexanol plant utilizing LP OxoSM SELECTORSM 10 Technology in the Shandong Province, People's Republic of China was annouced earlier this year. About LP OxoSM SELECTORSM Technology LP OxoSM SELECTORSM Technology is a low-pressure hydroformylation process that is most commonly used with propylene and synthesis gas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) to produce normal- and isobutyraldehydes. These butyraldehydes are then converted into 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) and normal- and isobutanol. Additional applications of the LP Oxo Technology include a process for producing 2- propyl heptanol, a growing plasticizer alcohol alternative to 2-EH, from mixed butene streams and a process for producing C12 to C15 surfactant range alcohols from C11 to C14 Fischer-Tropsch olefins. The technology is also applied as a component of a process plant for converting heptene-1 that has been extracted from Fischer-Tropsch products to co-monomer grade octene-1. For over 40 years DPT and Dow have co-marketed and delivered LP Oxo Technology licenses and services. To date, 47 projects at 35 plants have been licensed in 15 countries, on four continents. LP Oxo Technology is recognized as the world's leading licensed Oxo technology, contributing to more than 90 percent of the world's licensed propylene based Oxo capacity.
