Bathroom cleaners are typically spray or aerosol formulations to clean porcelain, metal, or plastic fixtures by removing soap scum, hard water deposits, and possibly rust stains. Bathroom cleaners may be either alkaline or acidic to react with and solubilize the soils. The role of the oxygenated solvent is to soften the soil which speeds up the reaction between the acid or chelant and the soil. Because soap scum is more polar than greasy kitchen soils, the best solvents are more hydrophilic.
