DOW VAM Takes Action in Response to Rising Energy and Raw Material Costs

Midland, MI - June 02, 2008

The Dow Chemical Company (“Dow”) announced today that, effective immediately, or as individual contract terms allow, it will raise the price of Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) in all regions of the world, in response to the current climate of unprecedented energy and raw material costs.

VAM prices will increase by US$ 0.04 per pound in North America and by US$ 90 per metric ton in all other regions of the world.

“This increase is necessary in the face of upward surges in feedstock, energy and transportation costs to record-breaking levels,” said Antulio Borneo, global business director, Dow VAM.  “We have acted decisively to ensure that our business remains healthy over the long-term and continues to contribute to customer success.”

VAM is a key raw material used in the manufacture of emulsion polymers, resins and other intermediates for paints, adhesives, coatings, textiles, wire and cable, laminated safety glass, packaging, automotive parts and acrylic fibers.
