New-Look, World-Leading Dow Coatings Business Debuts at Tradeshow
When the European Coatings Show started on March 30, The Dow Chemical Company and Rohm and Haas were two separate companies with two separate show booths, but by the end of the tradeshow on April 2, the two organizations had come together as one – the new Dow Coatings business of the Dow Advanced Materials division.
On April 1, Dow acquired Rohm and Haas – marking April 2 as Day One of operations post-close of the acquisition.
With the combined strengths of heritage Dow Coating Solutions and heritage Rohm and Haas Coatings, the new Dow Coatings is now the largest global coatings supplier of raw materials to formulators of architectural and industrial coatings around the world. The new Dow Coatings strengthens the Company’s offerings to customers, while also enabling a seamless focus on customers during the transitional period post-acquisition.

“We have joined together two excellent R&D, commercial, manufacturing, supply chain and technical service organizations – and created a broadened technology portfolio that will enable our coatings customers to bring new and differentiated products to market anywhere in the world,” said Luis Fernandez, the new vice president of Dow Coatings.
At the European Coatings Show in Nürnberg, Germany, the new Dow Coatings demonstrated its strengths in technology and innovation, as well as its commitment to sustainability within the industry. Dow Coatings employees chaired several sessions and presented more than 15 important technical papers – including one by Dr. Zhenwen Fu, who received the award for “Best Paper.”
“Starting today, and in the days that follow, our customers will get broader, smarter, higher-value solutions for any market they serve, anywhere in the world,” said Fernandez.
On the morning of April 2, about 60 heritage Dow and heritage Rohm and Haas employees joined together at the tradeshow to debut the new Dow Coatings business. The Dow Coatings employees gathered to meet one another, share breakfast, work jointly at the stand and hear from Fernandez.
At noon on the same day, the new Dow Coatings invited customers to share in the celebration at the tradeshow with small glasses of champagne to toast the beginning of this brand new business.
Held every two years, the European Coatings Show is the largest coatings show in the world and attracts key coatings customers, trade and media from Europe and the Middle East.
