Dow supports All-Russian Chemistry Olympiad in Magnitogorsk

Dow is proud to be a sponsor of the International and All-Russian Chemistry Olympiad to unveil opportunities for younger generation in the chemical science

Magnitogorsk, Russia - April 09, 2012

Aligned with Dow’s global corporate initiative as the sole sponsor the 44th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the Company supports organization of the All-Russian Chemistry Olympiad, national stage of the international competition held this year in the USA.

The All-Russian Chemistry Olympiad takes place at the Nosov G.I. Magnitogorsk State University on April 9-14, 2012 and provides high school chemistry students the opportunity to compete in science at the highest level, exchange experience as well as build new interesting contacts and basis for professional and personal development. The contest is intended to stimulate the activities of students interested in chemistry.

Dow Russia representatives will be engaged in the activities of the Russian National Olympiad, initiating an interactive session on April 13 for students, their tutors, jury committee and organizers as well as speaking at the Awarding Ceremony on April 14. During the session, Dow experts will focus on the recent innovations in chemistry and share their expertise with all participants.

The finalists of the Russian National Olympiad will move on to participate in the 2012 International Chemistry Olympiad in July at the University of Maryland outside of Washington, D.C. , where Dow’s sponsorship will facilitate the opportunity for secondary school level students from more than 70 countries to compete at scientific competitions at the highest levels, while gaining global experiences and developing friendships. Expanding Dow’s mission to highlight the importance of chemistry and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education, the Company recently launched the virtual platform Dow Solutionists in School.

These initiatives come on the heels of a successful year as a sponsor of the International Year of Chemistry and support Dow's many education initiatives.

All-Russian contest consists of two rounds – the first one is theoretical to define level of chemistry knowledge and the second – practical one to show chemical experiments in the laboratory.
