Already for the 3rd time Dow supports organization of the All-Ukrainian Junior Water Prize, the national stage of the international contest in Stockholm, with the aim to help educate the next generation of young scientists and raise their awareness about scarcity of clean water. The 2012 edition of the national contest, which will welcome young scientists from all over Ukraine, will take place on March 20-23 at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute". The contest is part of the extensive one-week program in Kiev to celebrate World Water Day.
"We are delighted to support the All-Ukrainian Junior Water Prize," said Oleksandr Aleksandrov, County Manager of Dow in Ukraine. “Together, with the organizers and other partners, we will help raise awareness among students about ecological issues and scarcity of clean water and facilitate the learning environment that will encourage pupils to explore the science and find sustainable solutions to address environmental impact ,” concluded Oleksandr.
Country Manager of Dow in Ukraine will speak at the official opening on March 20, while the technical specialists of Dow Water & Process Solutions, members of the jury committee, will share advanced water purification technologies and expertise with the contest participants. Results and names of the winners will be announced at the press conference on March 23.
Environmental problems of water reservoirs and treatment technologies, groundwater conditions, technogenic impact on water resources conditions, efficient usage of water resources in housing and public utilities, industry and energy sectors, non-standard water treatment methods – these are just a few topics which will be covered by the students participating in the contest.
About the Contest - The contest "All-Ukrainian Junior Water Prize" - the national stage of "Stockholm Junior Water Prize» which runs at the World Water Week in Stockholm and involves more than 30 countries. This is one of the most prestigious international competitions in the preservation of aquatic environment and takes place under the auspices and with the direct participation of the royal family of Sweden. Like the Nobel Prize "Stockholm Water Prize" is awarded by His Royal Majesty King of Sweden Gustav, with the award winner SJWP-pigeon drop crystal and 5000 dollars.
For the eighth year the competition takes place in Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Science, Education, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Chemical Engineering Department of NTUU "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", Ukrainian Water Association WaterNet, 'Water Information Center" and OJSC "AK "Kyivvodocanal”. The winners of the Grand Prix, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded at the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine. The main prize for the winner of Grand Prix is a trip to Stockholm on August 25-30 to participate in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
